Just wanted to mention that I threw up my Favorites Reads of 2009 choices up over at BSC with some added thoughts about what was going through my mind and some personal themes of the reading year that came to me while forming the list.
Favorite Reads of 2009

Since the annual BSC Book Tournament is currently going on, I figured I’d share my 10 favorite reads from last year. No differentiating categories, and everything is equal no matter what format or medium it was published. Also, not limiting myself to 2009 publications, just to what I read last year. I know there is usually a lot of preamble that comes with these lists concerning standard formulas, and since I usually view them as a combo of guilty conscious and covering your virtual ass at work, the only thing you need to know is that the way I gauge merit is simply by how much something kicked ass. Not kissed it. You may recall that BSC had a Summer Six Pack feature where a whole bunch of people more talented than me visited BSC and shared their mid-year thoughts on the best reads of the year. Some of my choices from then survived the second half releases and are noted here.
Let’s get to it, and in no order that matters to anyone who doesn’t have the potential lifespan of an ascendant to decipher its true meaning (and answers).
Costa’s Bar High on Cobra Twins
If you visit VI you know that I’m a G.I. Joe fan; official since the ’80s and the Hama reign. Over at BSC I tend not to do rumor posts. Not because I’m particularly against them or due to anything as weighty as integrity, but simply because there’s so much confirmed news that I never have to dip into the rumor cycle I literally could find a dozen more applicable news items without going into the maybe news, and we probably will remain unable to do so until we hire a news writer (which let me tell you, I can’t wait for!). Obviously, I think there’s great opportunity there, because people tend to like and react to What if? commentary, a lot of time even more than to the facts and done deals. One such bit of news that I ran across last month concerned the sequel to last year’s G.I. Joe live action film.
Word Encounter on SF Studebaker

Started several posts but I ended up not completing any of them because I found they all ended up tying into this one single post/article I’ve been working on & have had in my head over the last month or so. In some ways I think it’s the build up of original content I would have posted covering several mediums if I was actively writing reviews, asking interview questions or just posting original content in general. Some of it might even have been replies to other posts that I haven’t had the time to answer if I wasn’t as busy posting and keeping up with various news items we cover at BSC and BSCkids.
I’ll STILL take a Suh with that…

You have to understand that as a fan of the Lions most of my excitement historically tends to occur during the off-season, so when they came out blazing I was a bit excited. Perhaps a bit too excited, but I still remain so, though with qualification. The Lions came out blazing, signing free agents Nate Burelson and Kyle Vanden Bosch, and trading late round picks in the upcoming Draft for Corey Williams. At first I thought these moves gave us some versatility going into next month’s Draft, but given some time to consider it in mentat fashion, this potential versatility could be my damn bane incarnate…if I didn’t have faith, and believe me brother. it might be the wrong kind – old testament test style – but you can’t be a Detroit Lions fans for life and not have some. Don’t make me bust out my Jerry Ball jersey
Let’s get a couple of irrefutable positives out of the way…
